Purple Hibiscus - Chimandanda Ngozi Adichie

The perfect family, the pillars of the church... hiding lives shattered by abuse. This is the story of two of their children, struggling to be free from the oppression of their fanatical father... and the twists and turns the road to freedom takes them on.

I LOVED this book... The characters came alive to me, and I identified so deeply with Kambili's shy and fearful self, locked so deeply inside herself that she wonders if self-expression will ever be possible for her. I give it a 5 out of 5 rating.

The ranch

Well, I just finished a book by one of the most wellknown authors ever. It's called the ranch, google it, because I can't spell the name of the author at the moment. It's about these 3 friends, who were best of friends 20 years before in college, but there lives drifted apart and in different directions. one was a doctor who treated aids, then developed it herself, one was a famous singer, and one was a housewife, stuck in a marriage that had died after trageity struck the family. THis book is about how they all come together at a ranch, and find love, second chances, and each other. I love the book.

full house

Full house is about a ritch guy, and a single mother of 2, who fall inlove with one another. But, they have to get past all the crazy plots, people, etcc in order to have a chance at marriage. It's a thrilling book, with an ending that is somewhat surprising. the athor is Janet ivonavich. I hope I spelled that right. I'm reading the second book in the series, full tilt. She's got lots of series of books. one for the money, starts a seeries about a woman bounty hunter, who gets into more situations that leaves us wondering what's next. She has more luck than skill. So read those, if interested. There's 14 of them, and, I'm excitedly waiting for number 15.

Carved In Bone - Jefferson Bass

A body is found preserved by the natural atmosphere of a cave. As Dr Bill Brockton begins to investigate, it becomes clear that someone has commited a murder... and will do it again. (Woo! Trailer writen by ME!)

I give this book a rating of 4.5 out of 5.

This is the first book I've read by Jefferson Bass, but definately will not be the last. In Carved in Bone, the main character (Dr. Bill Brockton) leaves his research at the "Body Farm" to help solve this crime... along the way, you not only learn various things about forensics, but HE MAKES YOU LAUGH!!!!!!!! There is nothing like a combination of humor and decomp, ya know? LOL

The plot was good, but could have used a little more suspense. The characters were great, but could have used just a little more development. Overall? This book freakin' rocked!!!!!! I plan to read others by him in the near future.

the other co author

Hi guys! I'm alison, aka, the other co author. I don't mind being called that, it's really cool being co anything.I'm not sure how much I'll be able to post in this thing, due to the fact that I'm starting college. But I'll certainly try! Now about my reading habbits, I'll give almost anything a try. I like to read books set in the late 1800's, early 1900's.I'd like to have them set in the south, but they don't have to be. Some of my alltime favorties? Anne of green gables, to kill a mocking bird, the outsiders, that was then this is now, rumble fish, etc. And those are ficton, I also read nonficton, I like audobiographies a lot. Well, that's a bit about me, hope to hear from everyone soon!

Welcome!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm Jana, the co-author of this blog. Together with Alison, we want to make this a place where we can all chill and chat about the books we're reading.

A little about me: I'm Jana, 28 years old and newly married. I've loved reading for as long as I can remember, and almost always have several books being read.

I absolutely ADORE mystery and suspense books! Some fav authors: JD Robb, Mary Higgins Clark, Patricia Cornwell, Elizabeth Peters, and Nevada Barr. I love books that either keep me on the edge of my seat, or teach me new things as I read along. The absolute BEST books? Ones that can do both! I also have a soft spot for books involving forensic science... or any kind of science, really.

OH! And speaking of science, Sci-fi books are another love of mine, specifically Star Trek novels! The absolute BEST author of those is John Vornholt... his books are completely AMAZING!!!!!!! And can you believe, my neighbor is giving me FOUR BOXES of Star Trek novels? FOUR BOXES!!!!! I'm in heaven. But where on earth to PUT them? LOL

Classics are always fun! Macbeth with it's amazing quotes, Jane Eyre spouting feminist ideals LONG before they were popular, and Poe with his dark dark stories... perfect for a dark stormy night alone!

Then there are some novels that I just plain love. East of Eden by John Steinbeck, White Oleander, Last of the Honky-Tonk Angels, ANYTHING by Robin Cook, and even the occasional Janette Oke.

And to spare you from your boredom, I won't EVEN go into my non-fiction loves! LOL I just wanted to give you a small glimpse into the reading life of a Jana... and now I can't wait to get to know all of YOUR book loves!
